Skrtel in contract talks
2012-05-15 12:28:12

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel's agent has confirmed he plans to hold talks with Liverpool over the defender's future.

Rumours have surfaced suggested Skrtel is considering his long-term future at Anfield after seeing them miss out on the UEFA Champions League for a third successive season.

Skrtel has been one of Liverpool's shining lights this campaign and was rewarded for his fine form by being named the club's player of the season.

The 27-year-old has two years to run on his current contract and Skrtel's representative, Karol Csonto, has admitted he will discuss Liverpool's plans as they get ready for talks on a new deal.

"You cannot say Liverpool won't play in the Champions League," Csonto told The Independent.

"It is a big club and because they haven't made it this year doesn't mean they would not next.

"There are expectations on both sides, though.

"Some changes have been made at the club and the player wants to know what the aims and ambitions are.

"We want to discuss with Liverpool what they want and, of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin's new contract."
