Rafa confident of fourth spot

The draw away at Chelsea was enough to move Liverpool back up to fifth in the table but Reds boss Rafael Benitez felt his side should have taken all three points.

Benitez said: "Before the game, to say we would get a point here would have been good - afterwards, you could say it was two points dropped.

"We are disappointed but it is not easy to get anything here and if you cannot get three points, then it is better to draw than lose.

"We were trying to win and two or three times we had players in good situations but we could not finish."

Liverpool are in a race with Everton, Aston Villa and Manchester City for fourth place and the final Champions League spot - and Benitez is confident his squad has what it takes.

"If we win our game in hand we are in fourth place," he added. "After that we must try to progress.

"If we play like we did here then we will win a lot of games between now and the end of the season."

Chelsea boss Avram Grant admitted his side missed a golden chance to boost their Premier League title hopes after being held at home by Liverpool.

The 0-0 draw means the Blues trail top-of-the-table Arsenal by five points and second-placed Manchester United, who lost to Manchester City, by three.

"I am very disappointed," said Grant. "We had a chance to close the gap at the top but we did not take it.

"The main problem we had was that the quality of our passing was not good."

City's shock 2-1 win at neighbours United earlier on Sunday meant a Chelsea victory would have moved them to within a point of Sir Alex Ferguson's side - but it was not to be.

Chances were few and far between at Stamford Bridge and, for the most part, both sides cancelled out each other.

"It is not easy against Liverpool," added Grant. "Especially away from home they play very tactically.

"In the end we created chances to win the game but we did not take them."

Grant is confident that Chelsea remain in the title race, however, and stated: "We will have further chances, for sure, as we have still to play United and Arsenal at home.

"They will not be easy games, as we saw against Liverpool here. We will need extra efforts to close the gap but it is still possible.

"After this result I am not any more or less confident that we can do it. It will not be easy but we can do it."
