Dalglish pleased with Liverpool performance

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish admitted the margin of Liverpool FC's FA Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion had flattered his side, but says he was pleased with the performance of his players.

LFC crushed Gus Poyet's Championship outfit 6-1 on a bizarre afternoon at Anfield, to set up a home quarter-final clash with Stoke City next month.

Kenny Dalglish's side were initially pegged back by the visitors at 1-1, but benefited from three own-goals, whilst finding time to miss a second-half penalty through Luis Suarez on a day which also saw a streaker emerge from the Kop late on.

"It was a good victory," said Dalglish afterwards. "It was more difficult than the scoreline would suggest.

"Brighton played very well against us at the AmEx Stadium in the League Cup (in September), and for half an hour to 40 minutes they were really good here as well.

"I think we deserved to win, to go through, but whether the score is a true reflection of how the game went is open to conjecture. We are just happy to be through.

"I think we had about 15 attempts on target, and I don't know if that includes the penalty. We always say we would like to get our conversion rate up, and today is not a bad return on a day's work.

"We do feel some sympathy for the boys who have scored the own-goals though if you are taking Steven Gerrard's off him then you'd better tell him yourself but at the end of the day I'm sure (Brighton) have designs on a successful season and promotion to the Premier League. And if they play like they did for 30 or 40 minutes here, then they will go pretty close, if not all the way."

The reward now is another home tie, against Tony Pulis' Stoke, who beat League Two Crawley Town to book their last eight place yesterday.
